Cruising Through the Carolinas!

Although here in Westminster, South Carolina we dodged the weather bullet, throughout the “Upstate,” many areas experienced a turbulent evening filled with damaging wind, rain, and hail. After such  a raucous display of wild weather, this morning dawned remarkably, with a clear blue sky and crisp temperatures – a perfect day for a road trip! We […]

Catching Our Breath

Vicki Corona once wrote,

Remember that life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away!”

or at least that is the earliest use of that well used cliché I could find. Even overused as it is, the saying still rings true to the ears of many. My wife and I are one of the ones that take this well-worn group of words to heart. We decided to live by it the moment we sold a big house and moved into a tiny one on wheels. The Escape Plan: Give it a month.

One of the many things my new husband and I had in common was our LOVE of camping, dirt biking, and exploring nature.  Both of us have always been drawn to being in the woods: campfires, hiking, wildlife, rivers, lakes…what’s not to love?  We both find God there, in creation.  So in June of 2014, Doug and I purchased a new 26′ toy hauler (for the dirt bikes!) and began our camping adventures.

We made the lifestyle change

The Mooney family is a traveling family of four and our dog (Lilith) collectively known as the D20Nomads.(Check them out on Instagram!)  We made the lifestyle change to full time RVing in the spring of 2015 and never looked back choosing homeschooling over public schooling, wide open adventuring over narrow sheltered living, and free-thinking over following a prescribed path.  We are the kind of family who want to explore and experience the land and people around us.  As a younger family taking this journey, we have learned so much about what life has to offer.  We are always looking for new ideas and chances to grow, not only as people, but also our knowledge. The Handwritten Note

“Never Let It Be Too Late.” Written on a yellow post-it note, these words were found on my dad’s bathroom mirror the day he died in December 2004.  It was a sudden heart attack, and at 75 he’d been in excellent health with no indication of any heart trouble. Read more about The Handwritten Note

An Affordable Way to Live

My husband and I began workamping in June of 2016. We were preparing to travel the country full-time in our RV. I’d recently quit my full-time job so we had some extra free time on our hands and needed an affordable way to live in northern New Hampshire while we both spent a summer playing music at Jean’s Playhouse – I was also the musical director. (Ross was also continuing his teaching studio, and I worked as the accompanist at a local church.) So I sent out emails to the local campgrounds. Read more about An Affordable Way to Live
