It’s Almost My Turn

Believe it or not…I don’t live the Workamper lifestyle, yet.  Although I’m  not a Workamper by definition, however, in my heart I know I am.  Since I’ve been with Workamper News almost 5 years and have helped many other Workampers on the journey to living their dream, I now  realize – it’s almost my turn.  I’ve lived in the small town of Heber Springs, AR for more than 30 years and raised my kids here.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Dreamer for sure!  I have to get my ducks in a row before I can set out on this adventure.  Being a single mom for so many years did hold me back.  My kids wanted to stay in the school they went to most of their lives and graduate with friends and so forth.  My parents are here, and I didn’t want to be too far from them yet, either.  I’m not ready to be a full-timer anytime soon.  I don’t want to stray too far from my three beautiful grand kids!   I’ve decided to start out slow and piddle around the Natural State for a while and come home often.  Plus, how can I keep working for Workamper News and be a Workamper?  This has been my favorite job so far of my working career.  I believe in the company and I love the members and my boss is great.  Now I just have to convince Steve that I can do this on the road part-time!  ?

What steps are you taking to get road ready?  I thought I would share a few of mine.  I hear so many people say, just do it! Boy, if I could I would in a heartbeat! There’s this little thing called money or lack thereof, that tends to get in the way of everything.  My first planning phase consists of getting the last kid graduated and off to college.  Just one more year to go.  It’s of course bitter sweet but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about having an empty nest.  I love my kids and miss them something fierce, but our jobs are to train them up and send them out in the world to be productive members of society.  So far, 2 outta 3…not bad – 1 to go! ?

One duck that’s not even part of this flock – I don’t have a house to sell, I rent a small apartment for just my youngest and I.  It’s  perfect for us and has everything we need.  Sometimes we could use two bathrooms and a dishwasher, but that’s another blog.

The next phase is making sure my parents are taken care of and they have what they need for me to be gone a week or so at a time.  I have other siblings, but they live in different states and are busy with their lives and I’m right here.  It only makes sense and it’s practical.

Once I have at least four ducks in a row, I’ll have to start searching for the perfect Pop-Up.  I talked to my brother and he has convinced me to start out in a Pop-Up.  It’s much cheaper and probably the only thing my little Jeep can pull.  I think it would be just fine to start with.  Just enough to get my feet wet and keep my head dry.

So let me recap my row of ducks for you –

  1. Convince Steve to let me work from the road, sometimes 😉
  2. Get the last child graduated and off to college
  3. Take care of parents
  4. Purchase a Pop-Up

Now I’m getting somewhere! I can hear my mom now.  How are you going to decorate it?    I believe I better start another Pinterest Board.

Speaking of Pinterest! You can find Workamper News on there too!

…and even on Google+

Safe Travels!
